Why financial planning is important in different stages of life?



Financial planning means deciding in advance how much to spend, on what to spend according to the funds at your disposal.

The financial planning begins with a determination of total capital requirement. For this, the finance managers do the sales forecast and if the future prospects appear to be bright and expect an increase in sales, then the firm needs to increase its production capacity which means more requirement of long-term funds. A higher level of production and increase in sales will require higher fixed as well as working capital.

After estimating the requirement of funds the next step of financial planning is deciding how to raise this finance. Finance may be internally generated by the business or capital may have to be raised from external sources such as equity shares, preference shares, debentures, loans, etc.

Investing is important to build your wealth. It allows you to put your money into those things which have the potential to earn strong rates of return. Investing your money allows you to have a potential increase in it and if someone invests wisely, the potential to gain money is higher than if he never invests. Whether you invest in stocks, bonds, books, equipment, software, real estate, or a combination of all of the above, the ultimate objective is always to generate money.

As if you’re working right now, you should be saving money for your retirement. You can put your investment savings into the portfolio of investment.

In this writing, I will be discussing some of the things that are worth investing in but first I will discuss that why investing money is important.

There can be several reasons for investing money but in my point of view some of the foremost reasons are discussed below:

Similarly, if someone invests in stock it could be beneficial in two ways, one could be through dividends while the other could be through capital gain.

Investing money is important to beat inflation. If you don’t invest your money and just leave them in your savings account, the money will ultimately decline in purchasing power and inflation will eat the value of your money.

Investing is one of the key components in achieving financial goals for oneself. Every individual comes up with new financial requirements in his life so to compete with those financial requirements, investing helps you in it. Besides these financial goals, retirement is always an omnipresent financial goal for people during their working lives.

Education is a sound investment, but how solid it is? If society invests in education, it includes the opportunity cost of having people not participating in the labor market and the full cost of the provisions of education also remain high. A basic course can allow you to take a different position at your company or it can teach you a skill by which you can expand your offerings where you are working or if having your own business.

Those purchases that help you in advancing your works count as a good investment. That product could be anything, a good laptop, a professional outfit for the first day of your work, or a reliable car, as it is also important for your livelihood and helps you to do better in your life.

Therefore, it is imperious to make sure that you get a reliable car. In this sense, investing your money in a reliable car is the finest choice.

You can invest in housing and real estate. Apartments, farms, and trailer parks are all good as long as you treat them the same as an investment. Bonds are the safest and low risky of investments. They are the debt instruments used to raise capital. When an entity issues a bond, it asks for a certain investment of money. It then promises to pay back that investment, plus interest, over a specified period, so we can say that bonds are the easiest and safest ways of investment.

Stocks

Thus, when you invest in stocks, you’re making a relatively high-risk investment. Because the stock market can be volatile, it's best to invest in stocks for the long term. One of the most common beginning investor mistakes is trading based on the news. Short-term stock investors often sell at low prices in a panic and miss out on the long-term growth that happens.

Bonds

Bonds are actually debts issued by corporations or, more commonly, governments. When you invest in bonds, you’re lending your money to the bond issuer.

Investing in bonds provides a reliable return because bonds pay a fixed amount of interest at fixed intervals, often twice a year. That’s why they’re known as fixed-income assets. Because bond issuers are legally obligated to repay their debts, bonds are considered a safer investment than stocks. However, bonds don’t have the exponential growth potential that stocks do.

The lowest-risk bonds are those issued by the U.S. Treasury. Municipal bonds, which are issued by state and local governments, are slightly riskier.

Investing in Treasurys and municipal bonds has the extra advantage of tax breaks: You don't pay federal income tax on the interest you earn from municipal bonds. The good you make on Treasurys isn’t taxed by states. Investing in corporate bonds is riskier than investing in government bonds. The safest corporate bonds are known as investment-grade bonds. The most difficult corporate bonds are called junk bonds.

Because investors assume a high level of risk when they buy junk bonds, they earn higher interest rates.

Mutual Funds

Mutual funds are pre-built collections of stocks, bonds, and other types of investment assets. Typically, mutual funds are designed and managed by financial professionals. However, some mutual funds are index funds, which means their makeup and performance are tied to a market index, like the S&P 500 or the Dow Jones Industrial Average. We’ll talk more about index funds when we discuss ETFs. Investing in a mutual fund allows individual investors to buy a diverse market segment without doing all the footwork to research and buy individual stocks.

Unlike stocks, mutual funds aren’t traded on the stock market. To buy and sell shares of a mutual fund, you have to go through the investment company that manages the fund. You can only do so at the end of the trading day. Many mutual funds require an upfront investment of anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500, which may be steep for beginners.

Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs)

Exchange-traded funds are similar to mutual funds in that each is a basket of different investment assets. A live human being did not actively manage one. Instead, ETFs are usually passively managed index funds. Many ETFs seek to replicate the overall stock market's performance or a primary stock index. Others aim to represent a smaller segment of the market.

For example, some ETFs are collections of companies in the same industry or geographical locations. Or they may focus on companies with a similar market capitalization — that is, the total dollar value of the company’s shares available on the market.

Because someone passively managed an index fund, the fees are usually lower than what you'd pay for a mutual fund. Unlike mutual funds, ETFs are traded precisely like stocks throughout the day on stock exchanges. There's no minimum investment amount beyond the price of a single share.

Emotional resilience is one’s ability to handle stressful situations and crises healthily and constructively. More resilient people are more active in handling crises effectively while less resilient people face a harder time with stress. In this current situation of the pandemic, every other person is stressed. Some have lost their jobs, and everyone is confined to their homes amid quarantine. Analyzing the situation, emotional resilience has become more important than ever before. In this blog, I will discuss about emotional resilience and traits that every emotionally resilient people have. 

What is Emotional Resilience? To explain it simply, emotional resilience is the ability to handle a crisis constructively and healthily. It is a personal trait and essential to developing in life. Research shows that a person who manages minor stresses easily is also able to manage a major crisis with ease. So, we can say that emotional resilience has its benefits for daily life as well for a rare unlikely situation in the future. What are traits of Emotional Resilience?

We all know the importance of sleep and how it is healthy for health. But according to the Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in three adults do not get enough sleep. Lack of sleep affects your health in several ways. Recent studies have shown a link between unhealthy diet, poor sleep, and overeating. Chronic sleep deprivation is associated with unhealthy eating patterns that lead to several health problems like obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke, therefore, at least seven hours per night sleep is recommended. 

If you want to know how sleeping patterns adversely affect our health and how a lack of sleep increases junk food craving? Well, you’ve landed in the right place! In this blog, I will also discuss that it’s not only the body that suffers, but sleep deprivation can also cause poor decision making and mental distress.


What is the link between appetite and sleep deprivation? 

Sleep and nutrition are linked with each other. A major linkage is between sleep and overeating. Sleep deprivation affects appetite and food choices, it increases the chances of both consuming unhealthy food especially junk food, and overeating. 

A research study has shown that insufficient sleep increases overeating and unhealthy food choices that lead to health problems like obesity and diabetes. 

There is also a common connection between appetite and sleep deprivation. We often think of appetite just as a matter of stomach grumbling but it is actually controlled by neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that help nerve cells to communicate with each other. There are two neurotransmitters that are linked with appetite; Leptin and Ghrelin. Leptin helps in feeling full while Ghrelin promotes hunger. Sleep deprivation affects the body’s regulation of these neurotransmitters. In one research, it was found that someone who got 4 hours of sleep had an increased level of Ghrelin and decreased Leptin as compared to those who got 10 hours of sleep.


What Is Link Between Sleep Deprivation and Junk Food Cravings?


A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism looked at the connection between sleep and junk food cravings and they found a link between sleep deprivation and junk food cravings. They also analyzed that sleep deprivation is known to stimulate food intake and appetite. As a result of this result, it was hypothesized that a tired person is more prone to rewarding food stimuli of high-calorie foods. 

According to health experts, when we are tired our olfactory system goes into overdrive to identify the food. It also results in changing the communication with the brain. This is why we are more susceptible to enticing aromas of coffee or baked bacon when we are tired. After being sleep deprived, one person takes food with the high amount of calories like chocolates, doughnuts, cookies, and potato chips. So, if you want to curb all these cravings for unhealthy food, just start with a regular and good sleep pattern. After having a good sleep at night, you will feel healthy physically as well as mentally, and you will be less susceptible to all the junk foods.

Going for a goal or dream usually involves making changes. When someone decides to make a change, this may not sit well with people that are happy with the status quo. When we change, it can affect other people. Jealousy and insecurity can be a response from another person. The bottom line is that 

When you operate from a place of high integrity, you must continue to move forward. Align yourself with others who will be supportive and build you up instead of tearing you down.  

Goals and dreams are fragile. They are like young, innocent children. In order to thrive and grow, your dreams must be feed and nurtured.

That brings us to Step 12 – Whittling down More Distractions

 

1.    ACTIVELY LOOK FOR THE GOOD IN LIFE

Seek out good things, and they will come to you. Sometimes, we’re so used to focusing on the negative that we don’t try to find the obvious positive things around us. As such, it’s a good idea to build a good habit of looking for good things. You can do this by:

2.    HAVE DEDICATED TIME FOR NEGATIVITY

When you’re first starting to fight negative thoughts, you might find that you struggle to contain them. Instead, you might shove them all to one corner of your brain, where they will eventually overflow and cause problems for you later.

Instead of letting this happen, what you can do is set aside some time for yourself to experience negative thoughts. This habit should be a daily practice and should take up no more or less than 10 minutes.

During this time, feel free to think of all the negative things you want. Outside of that time, when you discover a negative thought forming, push it aside, and wait for your next 10 minutes of negative thoughts to give it attention. This exercise will slowly but surely teach you to manage and, eventually, phase out negative thinking.

    3. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

It’s easy to point fingers or play the victim when life has you feeling down. You might say things like:

  • It wasn’t my fault
  • I had no way of knowing
  • I only did that because I was stressed out
  • There’s nothing I can do about this
  • I have no choice

Yes, some situations are outside of your control. But at the end of the day, it’s your life. You’re responsible for the decisions you make, you’re accountable for your actions and reactions, and it’s time to take control of that.
